Brawl Perspective
The SacBee brings an article today by Ailene Voisin. She criticizes the free-agency system arguing frequent roster changes hurts the fostering of lasting team identities. I think that's a great point; how do fans stay committed to their teams when in some cases half of the roster is gone from one season to the next (look at the Lakers). Voisin has more perspective on the brawl and how the NBA can avoid alienating fans. NBA must reach out to fans again [SacBee]

Pistons - Pacers Brawl
Ben Wallace pushed Ron Artest after a foul starting a fight involving players, fans and coaches. The game was halted with 46 seconds left. The Indiana Pacers get the win at 97-82. How will the league handle this? I have to agree with ESPN analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton:
"It was a disgraceful situation," ... "There were no winners whatsoever. There is no excuse for players to go into the stands. The privilege and honor that goes with being an NBA player prohibits you from ever crossing that line. It was a frightful, devastating experience and there will be major ramifications for both teams and will have an impact on the rest of this NBA season."

Pacers Lose to Clippers; Artest wants time off to promote rap album
"I was doing a lot," Artest said. "I was running around a lot and doing a whole bunch of stuff and I've also been working out, so I think I wore myself down physically, I wore myself down mentally. I was ready to take some time off, at least like a month off, but two games is enough."
Hmmmm.... His coach said he "compromised the integrity of the team." - Artest responded, he didn't even know what that means.

The main entrance to the forums start with folders for each division.
The forums are obviously a work in progress. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Too Many Distractions in the Timberwolves Camp?
Star Tribune has a story today on the current state of the Minnesota Timberwolves and season expectations.
Other sources discuss some of the distractions this team is dealing with as the season starts; namely Sam Cassell and Latrell Sprewell's contract extension issues.
Saunders said that any disruptions so far -- such as Sprewell's contract-extension displeasure or Cassell's one-day holdout for similar consideration -- have been mostly smoke.

Yahoo has the following quote in today's preview of tonight's game against the New York Knicks:
Sprewell described the team's latest offer, reported to be worth between $27 million and $30 million over three years, as ``insulting.''
Arguably, a lot of other players would not be insulted with this kind of offer at age 34. What do you think? Is this an investment the Timberwolves need to make to keep chances of winning a championship alive this season?

Eddie Robinson a Free Agent after Bulls buyout
"For whatever reason, it ended up being not a good feel for Eddie or us. That's never a good thing for anybody involved,'' Bulls general manager John Paxson said. ``As an organization, we're trying to find an identity. ... Eddie's needs are a little outside of the realm of what we're trying to do."
