NBA gets new Dress Code

NBA players have a new dress code. Among other rules, players can no longer wear: Sleeveless shirts, shorts and T-shirts.

Marcus Camby can't see adhering to the dress code "unless every NBA player is given a stipend to buy clothes.". Camby makes about $8 million a year. That comment is up there with Sprewell's remarks last season about not being able to feed his family with the $21 million / 3-year contract offered by the Timberwolves; as we know Sprewell is now without a contract and a team. Ridiculous!

Brawl Perspective

The SacBee brings an article today by Ailene Voisin. She criticizes the free-agency system arguing frequent roster changes hurts the fostering of lasting team identities. I think that's a great point; how do fans stay committed to their teams when in some cases half of the roster is gone from one season to the next (look at the Lakers). Voisin has more perspective on the brawl and how the NBA can avoid alienating fans. NBA must reach out to fans again [SacBee]

Pistons - Pacers Brawl

Ben Wallace pushed Ron Artest after a foul starting a fight involving players, fans and coaches. The game was halted with 46 seconds left. The Indiana Pacers get the win at 97-82. How will the league handle this? I have to agree with ESPN analyst and NBA Hall of Famer Bill Walton:

"It was a disgraceful situation," ... "There were no winners whatsoever. There is no excuse for players to go into the stands. The privilege and honor that goes with being an NBA player prohibits you from ever crossing that line. It was a frightful, devastating experience and there will be major ramifications for both teams and will have an impact on the rest of this NBA season."
